“Stress” Translated by Nishi Pulugurtha

Chaap by Sudhangshu Ranjan Saha (Bengali)

There is a sense of stress on whatever I say
There is a sense of stress on whatever I write
A spineless stress

It is that stress that forcibly makes me write
Stress of various kinds
Stress in the political sphere, in domesticity
Social and one that reeks of power

Whom do I tell? Where do I tell?
Even when it is a no, there are times when I have to give in
I have to keep giving in.
All work done, yet the master said
Just as the driver agrees to everything, compulsorily
Or the way an unemployed young man at home
Has to agree. . .

Sudhangshu Ranjan Saha is a poet, translator and writer. He edits the little magazine “Anyashampan”.
