NISHI PULUGURTHA

Loss of Faith

The flickers do not last long
A little wind and they are gone
Strange are the ways of life
A small jostle and push
All that one stood for ebbs away
Unlike the waves that push back
No niceties here
Yes, the sand loosens here,
The ground beneath loosens
Will it tighten ever?
Or is that it?
Inspite of it all, there are those that still make me believe
Make me want to believe that all is not just lies and hypocrisy
Little deeds, smiles and hopes that will probably make me look up
Life is cruel, but surely hope will shine through
Must shine through.

The Good Samaritan

That young man who called me
As I was getting frantic looking for a loved one who was lost
Was my good Samaritan
The ray of hope when things had got so difficult
An affirmation in the good inherent in people
A sign that life inspite of all its cruelty was not completely cruel
I do not recollect his name,
I think I have forgotten how he looks even
But, him, I have not forgotten, never will,
He reaffirmed my faith in humanity.
