For the lighthouse
Sometimes, it seems to be flowing between two glaciers
When I unfold the sepia photograph —
A faint ray of a linear light
Nobody could identify this to be a lighthouse
on this much-torn page
Until a pair of eyes
remotely resembles this apparition!
The light is visible above the foliage.
In the background
I can also see a small trawler, a man standing behind the bar
Waiting for some tandoor preparation—,
The carved head of a bronze sculpture reminding him
of his not being a seasoned sailor
and
the only mermaid
who would venture on her vertical decks!!
I fold the photograph
Press it soft with my wobbly palms.
It emits
A ray of light, linear —
snapped with utmost care —,
My fingers,
drenched with remote light
Clutch the silver strands
of gifted shell
And the
Frothy line on the beach –
For the lighthouse knew the destiny
The destiny smelt the breach
The breach resembles the rays--
and he was still a long way off!
