As I lay myself down
on the vacant bed
of an empty room
with an empty heart,
what is full is only the eyes
that hold so much
of the pearly drops
created by the watery emotions,
overflowing with deep thoughts
that irritates my peaceful mind,
but just as the oyster
transforms the irritants
into beautiful pearls,
so would I turn
these irritants
of my tender mind
into precious gemstones.

Elma Lalnunsiami Darnei is a poet and writer. She has contributed her poems and writings in a number of Anthologies. She also owns two Youtube Channels- Elma Darnei – a food channel that promotes the ethnic cuisines of North East India and Zoi Rihoi – a song channel that promotes songs in the Biate dialect. At present she is working as a teacher in English at the Maibang Higher Secondary School, Dima Hasao, Assam.
